The Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Tisiology (SBPT) is a non-profit medical entity, affiliated with the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB), which brings together
respiratory health professionals to spread science with social responsibility and fight for medical qualification.
SBPT develops projects in partnership with AMB, Ministry of Health, Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), State Pulmonology Societies and foreign Respiratory Medicine
Associations, such as ALAT, ATS, ERS, ACCP, APRS, SPP and SEPAR.
Our commitments
Enhance the national scientific production, with the edition of the Brazilian Journal of Pulmonology.
Offer updated knowledge to health professionals at national and international scientific events.
Inform the population by organizing campaigns for respiratory health.
Strive for quality teaching of Pulmonology by offering continuing education and distance learning programs to students and healthcare professionals, overseeing and
standardizing medical residency programs.
Defend the pulmonologist and his patients, battling with the government for ethical working conditions.
What we do?
Jornal Brasileiro de Pneumologia: bimonthly scientific journal, the main organ of dissemination of the specialty.
Continuing Education Program (PEC): presential update in Pulmonology, offered by SBPT in cities where scientific activity is not frequent.
Distance Learning Platform (SBPT): refresher courses in Pulmonary Function (Basic and Advanced); Image; Sleep medicine; Asthma For Primary Care; among others.
Brazilian Congress of Pulmonology: SBPT's main event, with extensive scientific background, international guests and election of the Board. It is held every two years, in
even years.
National Refresher Courses in Pulmonology and Pediatric Pulmonology: classes prepared by the SBPT Scientific Commissions annually, on the Rio-São Paulo axis.
National Course of Interstitial Diseases: held every two years.
Brazilian Congress of Asthma, COPD and Smoking: organized in odd years.
Proof of Expert Title: in partnership with AMB.
Story
“On October 18, 1978, the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Tisiology was born. Born, perhaps, is not the most appropriate verb. It is, in fact, the sum of the
experience, successes, struggles and greatness achieved by the two entities that, in the greater past, brought together the lung specialists of our land. ”- Dr. Mário

1937 - Foundation of the Brazilian Federation of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Tract Diseases.
1974 - Foundation of the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology.
1978 - Unification between the two associations for the foundation of the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Tisiology (SBPT).
